Francisco is a 13 year old who lives with his parents and younger brother in a block house. His mother is a housewife and his father is a peddler.

Francisco is enrolled in grade 7 and divides his time helping his parents, studying and attend workshops on gardening.

Gladis lives in Tierra Baja, Guatemala and participates in the Patios Productivos project. She does both housework and agriculture work. In her “patio” (yard) she cultivates eggplant, basil, sweet peppers and cabbage.

She lives with her husband who is a bricklayer and works other jobs in a nearby building.
They do not always make a lot of money and are therefore appreciative of your gift Henry, as it allows Gladis to be able to more substantially cultivate fresh vegetables for her family. Thank you so much for supporting Gladis!

Sorleis lives in Tierra Baja, Guatemala and is a participant in the Patios Productivos program. She makes a living by selling clothes through a catalog, while also making time for housework and cultivating her garden. Her yard contains basil, green beans, cucumbers, cabbages and sweet peppers.

Sorleis lives with her husband, who also does agricultural work and other jobs and their two daughters in primary school.

Sorleis did not think she would have much money to dedicate towards her garden this year, so she is very thankful for your gift. Thank you so much George for providing Sorleis the support she needs to grow a plentiful and healthy garden!

Etilbia lives in Tierra Baja and participates in the Patios Productivos project. She does housework and works in her yard. In her garden she cultivates basil, beans, eggplant and sweet peppers. Her family does not always make enough money to allow Etilbia to put towards her garden, which brings her a lot of joy.

Etilbia lives with her daughter who works in a building in the area, and her two grandchildren who are in preschool and primary school at a local school.

María lives in Tierra Baja, Guatemala and is a participant in the Patios Productivos project. She has been a homemaker for almost 50 years, because she never had the opportunity to go to school.

One of the ways Maria feels empowered is through dedicating time to her garden and yard. She cultivates eggplant, sweet pepper, basil, papaya, lemon and beans. She lives with her husband who works in agriculture and livestock.

Because financially her husband and Maria often struggle, your gift George of a garden kit is very appreciated.  Thank you so much for making a positive impact on Maria’s life!

Marleis lives in Tierra Baja, Guatemala and is a participant in the Patios Productivos project. She does housework and cultivates a garden, which contains beans, eggplant and sweet peppers. Marleis truly enjoys being outside and working in her garden.  However, because her husband earns a meager income, it has been difficult for Marleis to afford buying supplies for her garden.

She lives with her husband who is a bricklayer, her son who is in nursery school, and her daughter who is in primary school.

Ana lives in Olaya Herrera in the Rafael Núñez sector of Guatemala. She is 16 years old and attends Colegio San Felipe Neri, a school located in Rafael Núñez. She lives with her mother and her five siblings. Her father works various jobs through which he supports the household. Because the family’s income barely covers living expenses, her parents did not think they would be able to provide Ana a garden kit. 

Ana splits her time between housework, studies, the Patios Productivos project, and a dance group. She is one of the project’s most active participants and expresses a lot of motivation and excitement with life.
